In response to Governor Newsom’s Executive Order on Career Education, Dr. Christopher J. Nellum, executive director of The Education Trust–West, issued the following statement.
Despite a budget shortfall, California lawmakers took bold steps for all students, prioritizing investments in equitable opportunities to learn and succeed. They kept their promise to educators, students, and communities, and responded to their calls to preserve $500M in crucial funding for the Golden State Pathways Program.
As the Legislature considers ways to balance the budget, it should not come at the expense of a critical investment: The Golden State Pathways program is a $500 million investment in college and career pathways that prepare students to graduate from high school ready for college, and with skills required to fuel our state’s economy.
